Drill-less Dentistry
A new alternative to the drill, the air abrasion system makes it easier
to form fillings while leaving more of the healthy tooth structure intact.
Another benefit of air abrasion is that it makes it much easier to treat
decay at earlier stages.
How Does It Work?
Tiny particles, almost too small to be seen with the naked eye are forced
onto the tooth by a stream of air, gently and precisely spraying away
decay. Thanks to the precision and gentleness of the air abrasion system,
it allows us to remove decay at earlier stages without as much removal
of your healthy tooth. Teeth treated in this way are less likely to
require crowns in the future and smaller fillings are less susceptible
to wear and will consequently last longer.
Does It Hurt?
One of the most appreciated benefits of air abrasion dentistry by patients
is the comfort level they experience during an appointment. Air abrasion
greatly reduces heat and vibration, two major sources of discomfort
generally associated with fillings. This is why patients can be treated
without being "frozen" for their appointment, and why we call it "drill-less
dentistry". This also enables us to treat patients who are pregnant
or medically compromised. Many parents also appreciate it so their children
can avoid the two things they dislike the most; the drill and the needle.
